Here are my little Garden Sprites! Even at the crack of dawn they cannot resist getting wet in the sprinkler. Note the Cross Vine on the trellis has had a haircut:)!

SOme of the tomato plants behind the kids are right at 8 feet tall. Oh my!
I had to support our leaning Allium.

Finally, a tidy garden.

The cabbages have been yummy and the Brussel Sprouts are coming along. They are getting eaten alive, however, by something.

A late row of cukes. (June 24)

Still enjoying the sprinkler......

The Rutgers are growing....

Back corner of Rutgers.

The land between the Garden & the house. One day a pool......(I'll have to get a paper route...)

The Experimental Garden area has failed miserably. The weeds seem to be enjoying the plot.

So, here I am getting ready to tackle my VERY OVERGROWN Garden! It's mid-June and I've had to put the 'Growies' on hold while I emptied our home for some remodel work.

My beautiful Cross Vine is out of control. It's only one vine. Can you believe it?

As seen from the back here, the weeds and nut-grass (from the manure) are taking me over.

COnfirmation - weeds are present! In the foreground here is my amphitheater of day lilies. They were originally planted by our predecessors, the Thomas's. I moved over 1500 bulbs while pregnant with Graham to relocate them during tree removal. Ms. Anette is smiling down on them:)!

This is what's left of the beets, radishes and failed carrot rows.

These are our Rutgers Heirloom tomatoes that we started from seed. Wait 'til you see how they've taken off!

My Mommy's allium!! I dug them up in Knoxville just before selling her house. These are just like fireworks and they look spectacular after a good rain. Mommy always planted them and never ate them, so we are following suit.

Better Boys - starting to brown a lillte. I am getting ready to install soaker hoses. I think this will fix the problem. Need water from the ground down.

Romas - some branches are withering away and leaves turning brown down low. Hope the soaker hose will do the trick.

Another Roma. Note browning leaves & withering branches down low on plant.

June 2nd, 8a.m. - the kids and I are picking peas. (I am still in my jammies!)

Here are the Rutgers Heirlooms from seed. This 15 plants brings us up to 76 plants. I still have ~20 from seed that I may plant.

You would not believe the worms in the garden!!!

These are Romas. A few are not doing too well. Looks like it's paper and hay time, too.

Graham picking 'Graham Thomas' roses early May 2009.

Our first friendly garden snake of the season. (Returned to the dirt an hour later...)

Cabbages are on the way!

Brocolli - no cancer here!

We have a few radishes.

Mr. Worm with our Brandywine Heirloom plant from seed.

Here is how I mulch. Newspaper first, then layer with hay.

Now the tomato cage to keep Sadie the Doberman out now and the plant supported later.

More papering and hay. The green is weeds on the way. UGH!

I upgraded our poultry fence to hardware cloth this year. More sturdy and much cleaner look.

The weeds have taken over the radish and beet rows, but fear not! Veggies lie below....

Beets!

Graham & Rapley - my best veggie pickers!

From the dirt to the table.

Oh, my!

And of course, sugar snaps and sno peas with dinner.

June Update

We are in the full weed and water zone. We've had tons of rain and just this past week have finally dried out a bit. The brocolli is done and I've pulled out the plants. The radishes are finished and the beets are just now ready to harvest. They are so sweet. We are covered up in sugar snaps and sno peas this year. Planting them from seed at St. Patty's Day was the way to go. Still having growth issues at the back left of garden. Lots of tomatoes on the vine, too!

Just got the horse manure tilled in to the tomato areas. 4/18/09

Fresh tilled manure!

Rapley - the King of the Manure Load!

Just a sampling of the ton-o-worms in the manure mulch!

Manure ready for spreading..... 4/18/09

This is the beginning of the radish crop - planted from seed. 4/23/09

Broccoli plants just beginning to bear 'fruit'. Yummy!

Mid-April - I scored some 9 month old horse manure. I shoveled 2 loads intot the garden and Wes tilled it in to the areas where the tomotoes will go. The worms are INCREDIBLE!

Here, see the sugar snap beans and Sno peas just coming along at the base of the brass twin bed headboards I scavenged from a trash pile last year.

Here are the beet (just imerging) and radish rows. On the right are broccoli, cabbages, and brussel sprouts. 4/23/09
